Data Sources

Data is broadly classified into two kinds based on the source of it:

  1. Public
  2. Private

Public Source

Data is made available in the public domain by the government agencies or any non-profit organizations for the purpose of doing research. Since the source of data is public, it doesn't require any permissions to access it.

Ex: Census data, IPL data

Private Data

The data is not available in the public domain due to its sensitivity, and hence, its source is private. It requires special permissions to access it and you may or may not get it.

Ex: Banking information of a customer available to only him through a password access.

Some of the industries which make data private or mostly inaccessible are:

  • Pharma & Healthcare
  • Banking & Finance
  • Telecom
  • Defence
